'Pirates' invade Sewickley for the Child Health Association's musical benefit

A gaggle of pirates descended upon Sewickley Saturday night, unified by a desire to entertain and really bad hair. More colorful than sinister, they sang the theme song from "A Pirate's Life for Me" at the Child Health Association's biennial musical benefit at the Edgeworth Club.
The outstanding production was written and directed by Marguerite Park and showcased the talents of the Child Health Association Players -- amateurs in name only. The clever script was filled with many local references, which had the audience of more than 300laughing almost as much as seeing their neighbors in silly costumes. Carolyn Bouchard was a standout as Addy, especially when she sang "All the Single Ladies," but there were so many other shining moments, too.
The evening walked the gangplank from there into The High Seas Ball, with dinner and dancing to No Bad Ju Ju. Salmon cakes and a roasted pepper salad made way for beef tenderloin, scallops and a grand Caribbean dessert buffet.
Adrienne Donaldson (with Doug), Debbie Coonelly (with head Pirate Frank) and Tracey Moravitz (with Ben) chaired the ball, which also featured an extensive silent auction and a chance to spend the weekend at Nemacolin. It was great to see so many younger guests, and so many great gowns on a frosty night.
In the crowd were Jay and Holly Miller, Lisa and Dennis Pegden, Beth and David Genter, Bill Perry and Linda Taylor, Norm and Peggy Mitry, Jim Bouchard, Trish Hooper and Julian Neiser, Maria and Joel Swanson, Leslie and Matt Braksick, Dolores Smith and Dr. John Barber, Pam and Walter Gregg (Ms. Park's parents -- he was Captain Marly) and Jack Burns with Elisa DiTommaso -- president of the all-volunteer Child Health, which was founded in 1923 to support services for children throughout the region.
