The boys of summer have silenced their bats, but the boys of billiards were just getting started Thursday night at the Duquesne Club. It was the 25th anniversary of the Cummerbund Society's annual Pool Tournament to benefit Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC neonatal research. Event co-founders Mac McIlrath, Frank Marmion and Jim Smith welcomed Chuck Voelker as the society's new director. Thirty-two players in black tie and colorful cummerbunds were entertained by Rick Purcell's music as they mingled before they chalked up their sticks. Dr. Gary Silverman, head of Magees' neonatal division, thanked everyone for their continued support. Many former winners were among the players including Bob Beynon, Jim Dean and Greg Slavik. Taking this year's title of pool shark extraordinaire was Brien Moore of B & M Home Improvements. This was his second win. The runner-up was Dave Galardini of Merrill Lynch, who was last year's winner.
