Bike Pittsburgh's 2012 BikeFest benefit bash Friday night had more than 700 guests spinning their wheels. BikeFest began Aug. 5 with PedalPGH, but it was the party at the Pittsburgh Opera building in the Strip District that had everyone geared up for a good time. Chef Kevin Sousa from Salt of the Earth catered the annual gig, and because many of the guests arrived on two wheels instead of four, they were ready to eat, drink and be merry. The evening began with a VIP reception at 6 p.m. that morphed into the main event at 8 p.m. Wigle Whiskey supplied a special cocktail called the Agua Fresca created by Erika Joyner.
Celebrating the largest BikeFest ever with more than 80 events over 15 days were Scott Bricker, executive director of Bike Pittsburgh, and board president Mac Howison. Two DJs and the band Expensive S--- kept the dance floor full until midnight. A bicycle-centric Wheel of Swag and a silent auction were also on the agenda. BMX bicycle enthusiasts demonstrated their skills before the band came on, while others took a spin on the giant teeter-totter.
Over their handle bars with joy were Tom Sokolowski, Richard Parsakian, Patrice Matamoros, Dave Roger and Maury Burgwin, who was promoting more bike fun with Tour de Mon 2012, which begins at the historic Pump House at the Waterfront Oct. 6.
