Five years ago, the Findlay, Ohio, police department received a new police dog and bulletproof vest in the first grant from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation and The Giving Back Fund. Since then, it's provided more than $850,000 to K-9 units around the country. On Sunday at Jergel's Rhythm Grille in Marshall, the foundation held its first fundraiser and added Make-A-Wish children to Big Ben's team.
"I love the kids. For them to have a wish to hang out with me and to be able to grant that is awesome," the Steelers quarterback said, then turned the stage over to Flashback Heart Attack, an '80s cover band from California. Joining him were his wife, Ashley, parents Ken and Brenda Roethlisberger, sister Carlee Roethlisberger and Jessica Duffaut, foundation relationship manager for The Giving Back Fund. The fun continued Monday with a golf benefit at Sewickley Heights Golf Club.
