Pittsburgh now has three hotels that have earned the coveted AAA Four Diamond Award.

The latest is the 596-room Omni William Penn, Downtown, which received the designation last fall following a $15 million renovation, highlighted by the revival of the original Speakeasy on the hotel's ground floor. This is the first time the William Penn, which opened in 1916, has been recognized with the Four Diamond award.

Also Downtown, The Fairmont Pittsburgh has had the designation for three years and the Renaissance Pittsburgh for 11 years. For restaurants, Eleven Restaurant in the Strip District has had Four Diamonds for eight years.

Only 4.8 percent of the 30,000 lodgings approved by AAA make the Four Diamond list and 2.6 percent of the 29,000 restaurants receive the designation.

In the region, Falling Rock at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort won the Five Diamond Award in 2006 and the resort's restaurant Lautrec, won Five Diamonds in 2007.
