The "Politicash 2012" app is all about the money.

Wonder what Dreamworks animation and Barack Obama have in common? More than $2.1 million, as part of a SuperPAC.

Mitt Romney, of course, is receiving beaucoup dollars from his old firm, Bain Capital, but exactly how much? Thanks to "Politicash," a handy little chart tells us it's about $1.65 million.

Developed by MapLight, a nonpartisan, nonprofit research organization, this free app for iOS and Android was running about a month behind; "latest" figures covered the last week in July. But even as guesstimate totals, they're rather fascinating.

Users immediately view the overall campaign contributions for each candidate on the home screen, and from there can check out the top five from individual and SuperPAC sources.

One of the neatest features involves shaking your mobile device to view a random sampling of contributions.

On the Obama side, there were donations of $1,000 from the American Bird Conservancy and a software developer from Goldman Sachs gave the president $250.

Goldman Sachs itself has given Mr. Romney more than $500,000. On a more intimate scale, a doctor in Iowa gave $500.

Maplight developed the app in partnership with Common Cause, the Brennan Center for Justice, the Campaign Legal Center, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, Rock the Vote, Rootstrikers, Global Exchange and the Participatory Politics Foundation.
