Unlike its television counterparts, you won't find any frantic SevereStormWeatherTrackerApocalypse warnings on Weather Doodle.

This darling little gem (iPhone and iPad only) creates soft, arty screens full of data provided by WeatherBug.

San Francisco-based developer Tiny Mammal creates what it calls "artisanal apps." In the 99-cent Weather Doodle app, lovely, animated clouds weep rain and pensive-looking suns peek over verdant hillsides.

For an additional 99 cents, a selection of in-app upgrades offers other styles, including steampunk and eurocarta, the latter taking its inspiration from old maps.

Users can customize a variety of locations, adding or subtracting the amount of information on screen. Five-day forecasts are also an option, although one complaint: no hour-by-hour reports.

Weather Doodle is a kinder, gentler way of discovering it's going to rain all weekend. But what else would you expect from a company whose website claims, "We love ... puppies" and "double rainbows"?
