December brings holiday house tours and other similar events. Here's a roundup of what's coming:
The Wright House Museum will hold its sixth annual Candlelight Soup and Stroll from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 815 Venetia Road, Venetia, 15367. The fundraiser for the Peters Creek Historical Society features candlelit walkways, a decorated sleigh and tours of a 1780s log house, and the 1816 Wright House decorated for a 19th-century Christmas. Visitors dine by candlelight on a variety of homemade soups, breads and desserts. Costumed re-enactors will mingle throughout the museum, and live music will be performed. The Watchful Shepherd will present its Holiday Home Tour of five houses in Peters from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Western Pennsylvania Unit of the Herb Society of America is sponsoring a Scholarship Tea from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Calvary Methodist Church on the North Side. Tea, savories and sweets will be served along with a tour of the church and its inspiring Tiffany windows. Holiday gifts will be on sale, along with a silent auction.

The 31st annual Old Allegheny Victorian Christmas House Tour will feature restored Victorian homes plus the historic Calvary United Methodist Church, all in the North Side's Allegheny West neighborhood. Tours are scheduled at 12-minute intervals between 5 and 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Also, visit one of the world's largest toy train museums -- a private collection of hundreds of colorful train sets from the early 20th century. A Holiday Shop will be available at the conclusion of the tour. Reservations are required. It is recommended that tickets for the model train exhibit also be purchased in advance. Tour tickets are $25 per person. Tickets for the model train exhibit are $10 per person. Brunch and tea tours are being offered on Saturday for $50 per person, and an exclusive five-course dinner and tour on Saturday evening prepared by caterer Linda Iannotta has a limited number of tickets for $100 each.

Greensburg Garden Center is hosting an Historic Holiday Church Tour of Greensburg on Dec. 8 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Five churches will be beautifully decorated for Christmas by local florists. Pastors will talk about the history and architecture of the churches and musical entertainment will be provided. Information is available on parking; however, most of the tour is walkable. Tickets are $20 and are available in advance at the garden center, 951 Old Salem Road Greensburg, PA 15618. Information: 724-837-0245.
The Cranberry Women's Club Christmas House Tour will feature eight decorated houses, carols sung by the Cranberry Chorale, Christmas cookies with recipes, raffle baskets and more. The homes will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. and range from a log cabin decorated with many primitives to one of the oldest homes in the area, circa mid-1800s.
Tickets are $20 each. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope with a check made out to the Cranberry Women's Club to Gina Bianchi, 128 Village Drive, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066.
