The Greater Pittsburgh Dahlia Society will host a free Dahlia Show at Trax Farms in Finleyville today and Sunday. Hours are 2 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Mt. Lebanon artist David Csont will discuss plein air painting -- painting outdoors -- at 7 p.m. Monday at Mt. Lebanon Public Library, 16 Castle Shannon Blvd..
The program is free and will include information on the Plein Air Mt. Lebanon festival Oct. 2-7. During that first-time event, more than two dozen painters from around the country will paint outdoor scenes in the community. Art in the Park will be held on Oct. 6-7 in the Academy Avenue parking lot. Information: www.mtlebanon.org or www.pleinairmtl.com.
The Westmoreland County Historical Society will hold its Historic House Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Saturday. The "Toast the Tour" Cocktail Party will be held at the Armstrong-Fogg House in Greensburg from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Party tickets are $50 each.
The self-driving tour features five houses ranging in age from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s and the 1926 Citizens National Bank.
Tour tickets are $25 in advance, available at the society office, 362 Sand Hill Road, Greensburg (15601), the Latrobe Arts Center, 819 Ligonier St., Latrobe (15650) or by calling (724) 532-1935, ext. 215. An Antique Appraisal Day will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at Waverly Presbyterian Church, 590 S. Braddock Ave., Park Place (15221), corner of Forbes and Braddock avenues.
Certified appraisers Sam Berkowitz and Richard Wagner will appraise any item that can be carried through the door except sports memorabilia. The cost is $5 per item with a limit of three per person. Information: www.waverlychurch.org or 412-242-0643.
