Rachael Ray to appear at Barnes & Noble in Settlers Ridge

With more than 700 burger recipes on her home computer, Rachael Ray is -- in her own words -- "burger obsessed." So how'd she whittle the list to a mere 127 for "The Book of Burger" (Atria, $24.99), which hit store shelves earlier this week and copies of which she'll be signing Friday at the Settlers Ridge Barnes & Noble in Robinson?
By giving it to her friends and editors with the instructions, "Tab the ones you think sound the best," she says, laughing.
The softback is the first single-topic cookbook for the popular TV food celebrity and best-selling author, who has written more than 20 books since 1999. But the time was ripe, she says. The recent economic downturn sent many people back into their kitchens, and burgers are not only affordable, but also easy for home cooks to tackle. Plus, they're fun.
"I love the idea of what a burger can be, that you can play around with it," she says. "With burgers, everyone can be included."
A mouth-watering collection of recipes aside (her husband's fave is the Blue-Rugula Burger on Page 58), here's one more reason to brave what's sure to be a long line at the 6 p.m. signing: Pittsburgh is one of only four stops on the 10-city tour in which fans will get fed. A food truck outside will offer free samples of her burgers.
"You're such great fans of the daytime show, so I definitely wanted to show some love," she says.
