Calling all pickle lovers -- grandmas and otherwise

Slow Food Pittsburgh's annual "Pickle Your Fancy" Picklefest is at Wild Purveyors' new store at 5308 Butler St. in Lawrenceville from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. Submit an entry and you eat free at a spread including the Patterson brothers' Pennsylvania cheeses, Crested Duck meats and pates, and pickles made by chefs who will be doing demos. Come just for lunch and pay $20 ($15 for members). Meanwhile, judges will judge pickle entries. Drop off yours, consisting of two jars (one for judging, one for display) and a $5 entry fee at the store during business hours Oct. 9 through Oct. 13. You complete an entry form and attach your recipe (with credit to the source), and some winning recipes will be published in the Post-Gazette. In addition to love, winners will get prizes including edibles, must-have pickling books, food classes and more. To register, email Virginia Phillips at vredpath@aol.com. Slow Food even is offering a Grandma's Pickles Pick-up Service for grandmothers who want to enter but don't want to make the extra trip to drop off entries. For that, or to register to attend, email Virginia Phillips at vredpath@aol.com.
