Looking for an upside to this summer's onslaught of 90 degree days? Well, we can think of one -- or five.
Here's a sampling of some of the best ice cream places in the Pittsburgh region. (Hours listed are summer hours.)

The Kerber family has been making ice cream (and processing milk) for more than 50 years, mixing up about 90 different flavors.
At any given time, about 40 of those flavors are for sale, from Cow Patty (chocolate ice cream with chocolate chip cookie dough, brownie cookie dough, peanut butter cups and chocolate sugar cone pieces) to Raspberry Chunky Fudge (red raspberry ice cream with three different textures of chocolate) to the bright blue Dinosaur Crunch.
Kerber's also has a miniature golf course, a playground, a petting zoo, and a deck overlooking their farm, where in the evening patrons can enjoy the sunset while spotting deer, turkeys and even foxes in the fields below.

It's easy to find Page Dairy Mart: Just look for the longest line in town. On warm weekend nights, the line can stretch more than 50 people deep, winding around the corner of East Carson Street and Becks Run Road on the South Side.
For more than 60 years, Page Dairy Mart has served hard ice cream and soft serve, along with all sorts of shakes and sundaes. Specialties include the Nancy B's Sundae (warmed chocolate chip cookies from Nancy B's Bakery in West Homestead topped with ice cream and fudge) and the South Side Shake (milk shake on the bottom, topped with ice cream and sundae toppings).

If ice cream gets eccentric, this is it. Oh Yeah! serves ice cream from Dave & Andy's in Oakland, with an offering of offbeat mix-ins ranging from rose water to curry to turkey jerky. Oh Yeah! also sells seven varieties of soy ice cream from a supplier in Chicago.
The shop also serves waffles, which can be made gluten free, vegan or blue (with a blue corn batter). Waffles are also served topped with ice cream.
The store is also pet-friendly and hosts an always-entertaining bathroom with a one-way mirrored door (you can see out but those outside cannot see in).

Small-town ice cream at its finest. Not only are there cow statues and a giant ice cream cone out front, the inside is painted with fanciful cow murals, including a princess cow, a juggler cow and a Statue of Liberty cow.
And their 48 varieties of hard ice cream and 22 flavors of soft serve aren't bad, either. All ice cream comes from local suppliers, including the Marburger Farm Dairy in Evans City.

Experience ice cream as our forefathers did, at the wonderfully art deco Klavon's ice cream parlor in the Strip District.
Klavon's, which operated as a drugstore from 1923-79, was restored to its former glory and reopened in 1998. There's penny candy, Coca-Cola bottle cap fountain stools and "authentic fountain beverages" including malts, phosphates and egg creams.
There's also an adorable yellow painted kids table for two.
