Friends of the CLP-Allegheny Wine Tasting: Fancy food and Spanish wines to benefit the Allegheny branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. 7 p.m. Friday at the library branch. $55 per person. For tickets: 412-237-1890; a few tickets may be available at the door.

The Death and Rebirth of Whiskey in Western PA: It's a fusion of women's history and booze! How to Drink Wines Like a Millionaire in a Million Dollar House: Sip the picks of local sommeliers who suggested wines with great flavor at affordable prices. 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in a new model home in the North Hills, a 6,500-square-foot home with outdoor gardens and a yoga/meditation room. $40 per person. Ewe are Special: Tour the Fred M. Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children's Media at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, then head out to Jamison Farm for an open-air, six-course dinner prepared by great chefs including Gregg Andrews of The Supper Club in Greensburg; Kathleen Blake of The Rusty Spoon in Orlando, Fla; Rick Laskie of St. Vincent College; Jamie Leeds of Hank's Oyster Bar in Washington, D.C.; and Jimmy Sneed of Fresca on Addison in Richmond, Va. Hoverla Ukrainian American Film Festival: Films and foods from around the world, plus question-and-answer sessions and private auctions. Opening night is at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, University of Pittsburgh, Oakland, with a screening of "Klitschko," a documentary about Ukrainian brothers who have changed the sport of heavyweight boxing. Private cooking classes: Chef Donato Coluccio is now offering private cooking classes from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at his restaurant, Donato's of Fox Chapel. Food safety courses: The Allegheny County Health Department offers two-day food safety certification courses for food industry workers on Oct. 2 and 9 at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department; Oct. 22 and 29 at Pittsburgh Athletic Association in Oakland; Nov. 3 and 10 at UPMC Mercy Hospital, Uptown; and Nov. 30 and Dec. 7 at Allegheny General Hospital, North Side. Kick Hunger Challenge: Steelers fans, here's your chance to display your dominance over other NFL fans. Taste of the NFL has announced an online fundraiser that pits fans from all 32 NFL cities against each other in a friendly competition to raise money for food banks in each NFL community. Last year's champions were the Atlanta Falcons fans; surely the Black 'n Gold can do better, right? Go to kickhungerchallenge.com and donate any amount over $10 in the name of the Steelers; 100 percent of the donation will go to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The winning team will get its donations matched up to $10,000.
