The dog days of summer lie ahead, and the heat is on to survive in style. Fortunately, a host of new beauty products have been launched in time to help. From brush-on sunblock to inner soles for bare feet, from protection for colored hair to Bug Guard, here's a look at some of the best:
This compressed bronzer comes in a compact that twists, releasing a small amount of powder. But the best part is the perfectly natural sheer color -- unlike many, there's no hint of glitter or shine. $34.50 at department stores and Sephora.
Bare legs are one of the best things about summer until you start swimming in your shoes! Summer Soles are super thin inner soles designed to wick moisture and keep feet dry without the bulk of an orthopedic sole. They can be cut to fit any size shoe, sandal, high heel or thong, and can be inserted and removed easily. They're $7.95 at www.SummerSoles.com.
The Skin So Soft Bug Guard collection includes a new Anti-Itch Spray and classics that combine sun protection with DEET-free bug repellant. Bug Guard Plus Expedition with SPF 30 protects for eight hours, while Bug Guard Plus Picaridin is especially effective against mosquitoes and deer ticks. Both come either as a pump or aerosol. Bug Guard Plus SPF 30 is available in Gentle Breeze Lotion or Cool 'n Fabulous Disappearing Color Lotion. From $10-$16 through Avon reps or call 1-800-for-AVON.
Clarins protection powerhouse, UV Plus, is now available in three tinted shades to even skin tone and diminish imperfections. The formula remains the same -- a 100 percent mineral filter offering triple protection from UVA/UVB rays, pollution and free radicals. With an oil-free matte finish, it's $40 at department stores.
An application mitt helps to avoid streaks and the tan palm syndrome. The color is also excellent -- not a hint of orange. A slight tint helps you to see where you are applying the tanner, which is loaded with vitamin C and moisturizers to nourish the skin. $36 at QVC.com (or call 1-800-345-1515) and Sephora.
A lightweight nude eyelid primer that prevents creasing, intensifies color and stabilizes powder eyeshadows to prevent them from melting away in the summer heat. Eye Prime also hides tiny veins and other discolorations and brightens the eye area, so it can be worn alone. $22 at department stores and Sephora.
A lighter, crisper version of the popular new women's fragrance from Burberry, Burberry Body is feminine and summery, with notes of green apple and tea. $80 at Burberry.com.
A mineral-based powder sunscreen has SPF 30 to protect without the use of harmful chemicals. Sweat-proof and water-resistant, it's both refillable and a convenient alternative to greasy lotions -- just sweep it on with the brush. It's recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. $24.95 at BrushonBlock.com.
This new line from the French company includes shampoo, conditioner and a terrific masque, all infused with essential oils. They are formulated to protect and repair color-treated hair from the ravages of the sun and frequent washing. From $22-$32 at L'Occitane stores.
Infused with trendy Argan oil, which comes from a nut in Morocco (think Moroccan oil), this soothing anti-aging lip treatment is available in two very natural light pink shades and has a refreshing, fruity scent. Plus the little pots are small enough to toss into a bag so you can apply all day. $34 through QVC.com or call 1-800-345-1515.
