Stylebook: Pittsburgher a finalist for national Mustached American of the Year title

Pittsburgh may be about to claim another title: home to the Mustached American of the Year.
Adam Causgrove, 28, of Mount Washington is in the running for the Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year award, given out annually by the American Mustache Institute.
"It's a pretty big honor," said Mr. Causgrove, who manages research grants for the department of microbiology and molecular genetics at the University of Pittsburgh.
A friend nominated him for the honor, which attracted approximately 900 nominees. The submitted photo depicts Mr. Causgrove in a suit with his dog Oliver and 2-year-old 'stache. It's an Instagram picture snapped with an iPhone, and "it just turned out amazing. It looks like it's about 80 years old," he said.
He is up against 14 others, including St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher, "Parks and Recreation" actor Nick Offerman and MLB umpire Jim Joyce. Past winners have included professional athletes Clay Zavada and John Axford and retired New York City police detective Tim Galvin.
"It's a pretty stiff competition going up against celebrities and athletes," he said, "but I'm trying to mount a social media campaign and bring this back to the common man."
People can cast their vote at www.americanmustacheinstitute.org/goulet-voting. The winner will be announced Oct. 27 at 'Stache Bash 2012 in Mesa, Ariz.
The American Mustache Institute was founded in 1965 and, according to its website, is "committed to battling a demonstrated discriminatory culture against people of Mustached American heritage." It's headquartered in St. Louis, which it calls "home to the world's largest mustache -- the Gateway Arch."

Hedi Slimane stays busy with Cathy Horyn feud, new Saint Laurent website: Ever since taking the helm of Yves Saint Laurent -- now Saint Laurent Paris -- creative director Hedi Slimane just can't seem to keep his name out of the news, for better or worse. The latest round of headlines target Mr. Slimane's tiff with New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn, who blogged that she didn't get an invite to his spring 2013 runway show because of an 8-year-old grudge and critiqued the collection (from which she said she "expected more") from runway photos.
Mr. Slimane fired back on Twitter with a letter in which he called Ms. Horyn "a schoolyard bully" who "will never get a seat at Saint Laurent." Ms. Horyn told Women's Wear Daily that the back-and-forth was "silly nonsense," and Mr. Slimane has since removed his catty Cathy attacks from Twitter.
In other Slimane news: Saint Laurent Paris launched its new website and the comparisons between his debut line for Saint Laurent and designer Rachel Zoe's aesthetic continue.
Lulu Guinness, JC Penney collaboration slated for spring: Next year the department store chain will welcome a line of handbags, accessories and more from the British designer. In-shop boutiques will feature the designs, which only will be available in the United States. Looks haven't been revealed yet, but if Ms. Guinness' other creations are any clue, designs with a mix of wit, color and charm can be expected.
