An entire month of the new year has come and gone and how much weight have you lost? Maybe that's because you failed to make it to the gym four days a week as you vowed and you continued to eat the holiday leftovers before moving on to winter comfort food. Your skin is dry, pallid and splotchy. Your thighs are mush on a stick. You have no energy, willpower or motivation. Welcome to February and a clean slate! Now is your chance to start over with a renewed commitment to looking and feeling better.

DIET

There are many over-the-counter weight loss pills that contain who knows what but generally a mega dose of caffeine. Dr. Suzan Obagi, director of the UPMC Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Health Center, has helped to develop a new line of vitamin supplements for NextCell that are targeted to skin, hair or weight.

The WEIGHThealth management packet has three capsules to be taken each morning with a glass of water. According to Dr. Obagi, they contain a unique blend of antioxidants and metabolism regulatory supplements that optimize a weight loss regimen of diet and exercise without harmful stimulants. The combination of vitamins, amino acids and minerals also promises to help burn fat and increase lean muscle mass. 30 packets cost $97 at www.nextcellmedical.com.

SKIN

Nothing is as aging as dry winter skin. New products are launched daily to combat an arsenal of skin woes, but these are three of the best:

Restorsea employs an enzyme from baby salmon hatching fluid, but don't let that gross you out. It has the same exfoliating properties as glycolic acid without the side effects. Developed in Norway by the creator of Avon's Anew, Restorsea visibly enhances skin's radiance, elasticity and smoothness, and it smells wonderful, too. An eye cream version is also available. The day cream is $150 at Restorsea.com.

Clarins Double Serum is powered by 20 pure plant extracts and is the first anti-aging treatment that claims to reactivate the five vital functions on which skin's beauty depend: hydration, nutrition, oxygenation, protection and regeneration. This product also features a unique double chamber system to allow for oil- and water-based ingredients to be blended on demand, resulting in better absorption. $85 at Macy's, Sephora and Nordstrom.

Clinique's Repairwear Uplifting Firming Cream targets three layers of skin with all the daytime essentials including UVA/UVB protection. This moisture-rich cream claims to restore the dermal cushion and boost elastin and collagen production so skin maintains its "snap" and becomes tighter and stronger. $59.50 at Macy's, Sephora and Nordstrom.

FAKING IT

Need some help slimming down while shaping up? Let shapewear lend a hand (and a gentle squeeze). The selection of snug-in-all-the-right-places undergarments is growing as more designers and brands expand their offerings of pieces that trim, boost and smooth. And good news: Comfort and shapewear don't have to be strangers anymore.

Jockey's new line combines slim fit with stylish looks, such as the three-panel shaping tank ($32.74 at www.qvc.com). The tummy panel contours and controls curves, while the tank's length covers and counteracts muffin top bulging. Plus, its lace-trimmed neckline and range of colors make it well suited for layering. Jockey's shapewear also features briefs, shorts and slip shapers.

Shapewear from Soma Intimates (www.soma.com) is light in weight and stays in place, thanks to patented Vanishing Edge technology that lines leg openings with no-slip silicone. Soma's assortment of shaping briefs, slips, tanks, thigh slimmers and more are comfortable enough for casual clothes, yet so smooth they'll go unnoticed beneath tight-fitting formal wear. Shop the collection at Ross Park Mall, The Mall at Robinson and Galleria, Mt. Lebanon.

Don't forget the shapewear stalwarts, such as Bare Necessities, Maidenform and SPANX. In addition to the usual slips and shapers, SPANX now has shapewear for men and booty boosting shorts. Most of these labels are available at major department stores, while SPANX has rolled out its first chain of stores.
