The new year is young, but so far it has been a prosperous one for hairstylist and product artist Philip Pelusi.

The Bloomfield native, with salons across Pittsburgh and New York City, recently had the Balance shampoo and conditioner from his Tela Beauty Organics line featured in The Wall Street Journal as one of its top tested organic products. He also has a second hair care line, P2 Performance X 2 Professional Products by Philip Pelusi (telanyc.com and www.philippelusi.com).

Last weekend, he and a team of stylists, many of whom were from Pittsburgh, created a Parisian-inspired look for models walking in the Venexiana runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City. The collaboration marked the seventh time he has styled looks to complement designer Kati Stern's ultra glam gowns.

He compares hair to a fabric. Adding healthy ingredients to it, which he strives to do with his products, makes for a better fabric, and ultimately a better design.

My favorite thing about my job is ... Creativity, diversity, interacting, sharing with so many people and building something of value.

If I wasn't a hairstylist and product artist, I would want to be ... a jazz musician or movie director.

I am inspired by ... life and our creative team.

Taking part in New York Fashion Week is ... Breakthrough! Invigorating, and challenging. It's fuel for myself and our design team to set trends in hair design and product development!

When I'm in Pittsburgh, I must visit ... I always drive back from the airport and go up over Mount Washington for the amazing view. We often take it for granted, and if I have a guest who has never been here before it always amazes them. Must visit my family!

If I were stranded on an island with only three things, they would be ... wine, my significant other and a chef.

If I could collaborate with anyone, it would be ... David Mamet.

My ideal weekend is ...working out, reflecting, creative dreaming and brunch at Maialino in NYC.

One of the best bits of advice I ever received was ... careful, you might get what you wish for.
