Magazine covers and store windows have been displaying fall trends for months, but now the chilly weather is suddenly here. If your wardrobe is still stuck in summer mode, it's not too late to stock up on autumn apparel and beauty essentials, from skinny jeans in seasonal shades to lipsticks in saturated hues.

Here are five options that will help heat up your style as the temperatures dip:

Wallpaper prints

Have a pattern parade with ensembles that incorporate prints from head to toe. With zigzags, herringbone, tweed, stripes, paisleys, florals and other geometrics as some of the many options, there is no shortage of ways to create an outfit that combines visual interest with personal style.

Pucker in intense pigments

Say "so long!" for now to glosses that sparkle and shine. Fall is all about lipsticks that seduce in deep matte wines, violets, mulberries and crimsons.

Colorful skinny jeans

Radiate in reds, ambers, hunter greens and golden browns with slender pants in tones inspired by this time of year. Take them from day to night with flats and a sweater to booties, a blazer and bangles.

Cropped boots

"Short and sweet" is one approach to footwear with boots that come just above the ankle. Call them shooties or booties, pick them in solids or prints or pair them with slacks or a skirt. They're a versatile alternative to other flirt-with-the-knee height versions.

Oversized outerwear

No need to worry about cramming that chunky cable sweater into a jacket with a streamlined silhouette. Coats that are big on warmth and width pack extra room for the season's layered looks in a palette of jewel tones, winter pastels and delicate or eye-popping prints.
