Gerber Legendary Blades of Portland, Ore., is recalling about 119,000 Bear Grylls Parang Machetes because the handle or the blade may break during use, posing a laceration hazard.
The recalled product is a curved blade machete with an overall length of 19.5 inches and a blade length of 13.5 inches. The blade is marked with the "GERBER" trademark and a stylized Bear Grylls trademark.
The machetes were sold separately or as one of the products in Gerber's Apocalypse Survival Kit. The model numbers are on the package. Model numbers are: 31-000698, which has "Survival Series" printed on the package; and 31-001507, which was sold only at Walmart. Model number 30-0006010 is for the Apocalypse Survival Kit, which includes a Parang machete among other items in a foldable black cloth case with "GERBER" printed in orange on the inside right.
They were sold at Walmart, sporting goods stores and online from January 2011 through June 2012 for about $43 for the individual Parang machetes and $349 for the Apocalypse Survival Kits.
LG Electronics Inc. of South Korea is recalling about 21,000 LG Electronics and Kenmore Elite Gas Dryers because the gas valve can fail to shut off properly, continuing to heat the dryer and its contents after the drying cycle is complete. The defect can scorch the drum, burn or damage the dryer contents, and pose a risk of burn, fire and smoke inhalation.
Model and serial numbers can be found on a label fixed to the front of the dryer above the opened door. Go to www.post-gazette.com/business for a complete list of model numbers.
The LG brand gas dryers were sold by various appliance stores, including Sears, from November 2009 through August 2010. Kenmore Elite brand gas dryers were sold at Sears stores from November 2009 through August 2010. The approximate retail cost for the recalled dryers was between $650 and $1,500 for these various models.
Consumers should turn off the gas supply and stop using the dryers until repaired. LG brand owners who purchased their dryer at retailers other than Sears should contact LG customer service to arrange for a free gas valve replacement. Customers who purchased Kenmore or LG brand dryers from Sears should contact Sears' customer service to schedule a free repair to replace the gas valve.
Dryers that have a colored sticker on the back, top, or a colored sticker or a plus sign ("+") on the back, bottom, near the gas valve assembly have already been repaired.
