Just whites, males influential?

Thank you for jump-starting my engines in the new year with "The Most Influential People in Business in 2011," Jan. 1. While your list included many smart, dynamic men, I was a bit disappointed that it did not include any women or people of color.

Here are just some of the many people who could have been included:

• Kathryn Klaber, president, Marcellus Shale Coalition. Whether for or against drilling, no one can argue with the fact that the coalition has had a significant impact.

• Maggie Hardy Magerko, owner and president, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and 84 Lumber Co. With the resort securing a prized gaming/slots license and hosting an exclusive Marcellus Shale Conference, Maggie is a player in two major economic development activities in our region.

• Candi Castleberry-Singleton, chief inclusion and diversity officer, UPMC.

• Sunil Wadhwani, CEO of iGATE, a global business with 5,000 employees that services more than 500 major clients on five continents.

• Dawn Keezer, director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, brought big names, big business and big dollars to Pittsburgh last year.

• Linda Lane, the new superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools, will have major impact on the economic health of our metropolitan region.

• Lourdes Sanchez Ridge is at the cusp of helping Pittsburgh position itself to compete for emerging talent and entrepreneurs as president of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and co-creator of the Hispanic Bar Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association.

• Aradhna Dhanda, CEO, Leadership Pittsburgh, brought TedX conferences to Pittsburgh and is a catalytic connector of business and nonprofit leaders.

• Deborah Acklin, CEO of WQED Multimedia. In a year in which public television was under national scrutiny, it was the inspired legacy of stations like WQED for quality commercial free educational programming that saved PBS.
