It is unfortunate that companies like Pittsburgh Mailing are suffering because of the financial difficulties of the United States Postal Service. ("Cutting The Mail Chain Could Have Ripple Effect," Sept. 27).
The USPS is incapable of behaving like a normal private business concern, and the fact that the USPS is beholden to Congress -- and not the market -- for routine decision making has created the crisis.
Instead of trying to incrementally change the system, it should be privatized, and the USPS' coercive monopoly in first class mail delivery should be abolished.
Companies such as Pittsburgh Mailing should be made free to compete with the USPS.
