Unemployment in Pittsburgh region up slightly in September

The unemployment rate in the Pittsburgh region rose one-tenth of a percentage point in September to 7.4 percent, mimicking a similar rise in the state's overall jobless rate for the month.
September's increase marks the fourth consecutive month of such hikes for the metropolitan statistical area, according to data released this morning by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
Statewide, Pennsylvania's unemployment rate sits at 8.2 percent, or four-tenths of a percentage point above the national rate of 7.8 percent. The national rate fell in September.
The Pittsburgh metropolitan statistical area covers Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
Within the Pittsburgh region, Butler County had the lowest rate at 6.5 percent. Fayette County had the highest at 9.5 percent.
In Allegheny County, the jobless rate was recorded at 6.9 percent.
