Residential real-estate sales surged in May

Residential real-estate sales increased 23.3 percent or nearly $80 million in May compared to a year ago in the five county Pittsburgh region that includes Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington and Westmoreland counties, according to RealSTATs.

The local real estate information service reported today that every county in the metropolitan Pittsburgh market saw increased sales in May.

Sales last month totaled $417 million on 2,495 residential transactions compared to $338.2 million generated in May 2011 on 2,113 home sales.
