Quarterly profit rises at L.B. Foster but misses analysts' estimates

Green Tree-based L.B. Foster Co. reported fourth-quarter profit of $6.7 million, or $0.65 a share, compared to profit of $6.1 million, or $0.58 a share, for the same quarter last year.

Analysts had expected the company to earn $0.70 a share.

Profit for the 12 months ended Dec. 31 was $16.1 million, or $1.46 a share, compared to profit of $22.9 million, or $2.16 a share, for the 12 months ended December 2011.

Net sales for the fourth quarter were $140 million compared to $133 million in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Net sales for the 12 months ended Dec. 31 were $588 million compared to $575 million for 2011.

The company provides infrastructure-building materials to businesses involved in transportation, construction, energy, utility, recreation and agriculture.
