Product recalls: Children's playgrounds, personal transporters, fireplaces, bar stools

Children's playgrounds

LeapFrog Enterprises Inc. is recalling about 186,000 Learn-Around Playground activity centers. A child's arm can become caught in the activity center's plastic tube, posing a risk of injury.

The Learn-Around Playground is a multicolored, plastic musical activity center for young children ages 6 to 36 months. It includes a Slide and Sing alphabet panel and a ball drop on the left side, a Number Rock musical keyboard in the center and a Flying Rhymes airplane, pop-up LittleLeap and "smart" book on the right side. "Leap Frog Baby" is printed on the activity center. Item number 10200 is written underneath the activity table below "Made in China."

Department stores and toy stores, the www.leapfrog.com Web site and other online retailers sold the item from July 2005 through August 2006 for about $60.

Consumers should contact LeapFrog for a free repair kit.

Personal transporters

Segway Inc. is recalling about 23,500 personal transporters, also known as the human transporter. The personal transporter can unexpectedly apply reverse torque to the wheels, which can cause a rider to fall. This can occur when the device is tilted back by the speed limiter and the rider comes off and then back onto the device within a short period of time.

This recall involves all Segway PT i167, i170 and i180 ("i Series") models, the p133 ("p Series"), XT ("cross-terrain transporter"), GT ("golf transporter"), and i2 models. These units were sold to consumers and commercial customers. All e167 ("e Series") models, which were sold to commercial users, are included in this recall. No other models are involved. The name "Segway" appears on the front bumper and/or on the handlebars of the personal transporter.

The units were sold by Segway authorized dealers and distributors, and directly from Segway Inc. and by certain resellers from March 2002 through mid-September 2006 for prices ranging from $4,000 to $5,500.

Fireplaces

Lowe's Home Centers Inc. is recalling about 33,000 "Garden Treasures" steel dome fireplaces that were imported by LG Sourcing, Inc., of North Wilkesboro, N.C. The manufacturer is Agio International Company of Hong Kong. Touch-up paint used on the fireplace's exterior can ignite during use, posing a fire hazard.

The recalled fireplace consists of a round fire bowl that rests on four legs, with a chimney cap and hood. The fireplace is made of steel and is painted black. They are about 3-feet tall and 2-feet wide. The item number, 91023, is printed on the package materials.

Lowe's stores sold the item from August 2005 through July 2006 for about $100.

Consumers should return the fireplaces to any Lowe's store to receive a full refund.

Bar stools

FDL Inc. is recalling about 3,800 Milano counter and bar stools. The recalled stools can be unstable due to missing screws, loose screws or wrongly sized screws, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

The recalled stools have four legs, are made of wood and have dark brown or black seats. The counter stool is 24-inches tall and the bar stool is 30-inches tall. The stools have item numbers 202448 and 118136, which can be found on the packaging material.

Lowe's stores sold the stools from October 2005 through May 2006 for about $40.

Consumers should look for missing or loose screws, and if the stools are unstable consumers should return them to any Lowe's store to receive a full refund.
