Post-Gazette reaches deal to distribute Trib

The Post-Gazette has reached an agreement to deliver the Tribune-Review newspaper in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
The Post-Gazette, in addition to delivering its own product, already delivers the Wall Street Journal to area subscribers via its distribution network. The Post-Gazette will begin delivering the Tribune-Review no later than July 1, while the Tribune-Review's delivery system will continue to handle distribution in Westmoreland, Armstrong and Fayette counties.
The newspapers said the deal made "good business sense" for both the Post-Gazette and Trib Total Media, the parent company for the Tribune-Review, and the Post-Gazette said in a news release that this might not be the only deal between the two papers, saying "similar synergistic possibilities" are being discussed.
"Our service consistently beats industry benchmarks, and we're glad for the chance to expand and to deliver to more people," said Diana Block, co-publisher and general manager of the Post-Gazette.
Within the industry, it's typical to expect 1.9 customer complaints per 1,000 daily deliveries, and 3.2 complaints-per-thousand on Sundays.
In 2007, the Post-Gazette reported receiving 1.4 customer complaints per 1,000 deliveries, and 2.2 complaints-per-thousand on Sundays.
"This is a common-sense and 'green' way for us to further strengthen and develop our distribution system throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. We'll be growing our business and helping to conserve fuel," Ms. Block said.
