Diana Block, co-publisher and president of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, has stepped down from her day-to-day role at the newspaper.
Christopher H. Chamberlain, the general manager of the Post-Gazette, has been promoted to president, and will be in charge of daily operations. He was hired last spring from the Journal Register Co. of Connecticut.
Ms. Block had succeeded former Post-Gazette president David Beihoff, who retired in July 2008. She said she wanted to spend more time with her children.
"It is with mixed emotions, however, that I step out of the daily operations and relationships that I've enjoyed so much at the PG," she said in a statement released yesterday.
Ms. Block will continue to serve on the Post-Gazette's executive committee and on the Block Communications Inc. board of directors.
She has been with the paper since 1998, starting as a reporter.
Also announced yesterday, John Robinson Block, the newspaper's publisher and editor-in-chief, has been named chairman of the Post-Gazette.
