Pennsylvania's jobless rate declines slightly

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate declined one-tenth of a percentage point in February to 8.1 percent, from 8.2 percent January, still remaining higher than the national average rate of 7.7 percent.
The state also added a net 600 jobs during the month with a strong showing by manufacturing which added 4,400 jobs.
The sector with the biggest job losses was education and health services which cut a total of 5,200 jobs.
Despite the decreased unemployment in the state, it is now farther behind the national unemployment rate of 7.7 percent because as the rest of the nation saw an overall decline in unemployment of two-tenths of a percentage point for the month, Pennsylvania's rate only fell by one-tenth of a percentage point.
