Almost at the same time the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced this afternoon that the state's unemployment rate was unchanged in May from April, U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis took the podium at Carnegie Mellon University in Oakland to announce the award of a $3 million grant for workforce training to the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board.

The workforce investment board will use that Department of Labor money to create a collaborative between local innovators and their start up companies and union training programs so that workers can be brought up to date in advanced manufacturing techniques.

The grant was from a pool of $147 million being distributed around the country for workforce training.

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate remained at 7.4 percent in May.
