L.B. Foster reports loss in second quarter

Green Tree-based L.B. Foster Co. reported a second-quarter net loss of $2 million, or -$0.31 per share, compared to profit of $6.3 million for the second quarter a year ago.
Analysts expected the company to earn $0.80 for the quarter. Second-quarter net sales of $164.9 million decreased by $6.6 million compared to sales of $171.5 million the second quarter of 2011.
For the first six months of the year, the railroad supply manufacturer reported profit of $1.3 million compared to $7 million for the first six months of 2011.
Sales for the first six months of this year were $280 million compared to $286 million for the same period last year.
