Discount retailer Kmart Corp. will close its Parkway Center Mall location, effective Jan. 6, according to a notice filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

The closing of the store on Greentree Road is expected to affect 54 employees, according to a letter sent to the state in compliance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

Kmart continues to operate other locations in the Pittsburgh area.

Although parent company, Sears Holdings, has been closing both Kmart and Sears stores around the country over the past year, Western Pennsylvania has seen little impact from that consolidation.
