Brooks Brothers will remain in Downtown location

William Rudolph recalls shopping with his dad for his bar mitzvah suit at the Brooks Brothers store Downtown in 1964. He learned this week that the store will be around for at least five more years to help young Jewish men and others celebrate special occasions.
Mr. Rudolph, a principal in McKnight Realty Partners, confirmed Thursday that the Downtown store, at 600 Smithfield St., has exercised an option to stay in the McKnight-owned building for at least another five years. He would not divulge specific terms.
"We're very excited about this deal," he said. "We're very happy that Brooks Brothers has committed to another extension. It shows the energy that is happening in that Smithfield corridor."
The decision comes eight months after Downtown retail suffered a major setback when tony Saks Fifth Avenue closed its doors after more than 60 years in the Golden Triangle. Saks' former Smithfield Street site now is being converted into a mixed-use retail, apartment and parking development.
"We couldn't be more pleased. It's a sign that the Pittsburgh retail market is in a good place," said Yarone Zober, Mr. Ravenstahl's chief of staff.
