Reed Smith LLP has launched an energy and natural resources group to handle the influx of clients that have come with energy development around the world, the firm announced today.
The Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) Group is comprised of 100 Reed Smith lawyers worldwide who work in the regulatory, transactional and litigation disciplines of energy law.
The decision to create an energy group was fueled in part because of an increased focus on drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale. The firm also cited factors such as expanding economies in Asia, where resource extraction is a booming industry.
Reed Smith has closed transactions with capital commitments of more than $21 billion in the past five years, the firm said.
The new energy group will advise on traditional and renewable energy sectors, and be headed by an attorney in London and an attorney in San Francisco.
