Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC said Ronald W. Schuler, member in charge of the firm's Pittsburgh office, was recognized in the 2012 Chambers USA annual law firm rankings as a leading lawyer in corporate mergers and acquisitions and private equity law. His primary areas of practice are corporate law, securities and commercial transactions. Mr. Schuler received his undergraduate degree from Pomona College and his law degree from Cornell Law School.
Caitlin E. Harper, certified elder law attorney with Julian Gray Associates, was named to Pennsylvania Rising Stars list for 2012 in the area of elder law by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers magazine. Ms. Harper assists clients in their Medicaid planning needs, including negotiating with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and long-term care facilities. She also provides counsel on a variety of veterans' benefits issues and in the area of general estate planning.
Leech Tishman said Jason R. Lawrence joined the firm's litigation practice group. Mr. Lawrence, a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, focuses his practice on construction law and complex commercial litigation, and has tried cases involving theft of trade secrets, fraud and misrepresentation, breach of contract, and lost earnings and future damages claims made by commercial fishermen impacted by the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP said George McGrann was appointed managing partner of the Pittsburgh office, while former managing partner Jeff Letwin will concentrate his efforts in his role as co-chair of the business services department firm-wide.
Mr. McGrann has more than three decades of experience as a trial lawyer in many areas, including commercial, antitrust and environmental litigation. Mr. Letwin, after nine years as managing partner of the firm's Pittsburgh office, will continue his work as a co-chair of the Business Services Department and, in that role, will focus on lateral recruitment to build the department in all of its locations nationwide.
Meyer, Unkovic & Scott announced that nine of its attorneys have been named to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list as top attorneys in Pennsylvania for 2012. They are Patricia L. Dodge, business litigation; Andrea Geraghty, real estate; Ronald L. Hicks Jr., business litigation; Richard G. Kotarba, construction litigation; James R. Mall, construction litigation; Robert Mauro, real estate; Russell J. Ober Jr., business litigation; David G. Oberdick, intellectual property litigation; and W. Grant Scott, real estate. In addition, Ms. Dodge and Ms. Geraghty were also ranked by Super Lawyers on their Pittsburgh Top 50 Lawyers list and the Top 50 Women in Pennsylvania list.
Penina Kessler Lieber was appointed chair of the American Bar Association Commission on Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts. Ms. Lieber, the first representative of Pennsylvania to serve as chair of the commission, is a nationally recognized expert in the law governing nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations. A University of Pittsburgh graduate, she was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow at Harvard University, a member of the University of Pittsburgh Law Review, and clerked for the 3rd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.
Six attorneys at Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. have been named Pennsylvania Rising Stars for 2012 by Philadelphia magazine and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers magazine. They are: Eric S. Lamprey, Michael S. Faber, Justin M. Gottwald, Douglas M. Grimsley, Brant T. Miller and Shannan Noe Cerrone. To be eligible for this distinction, a rising star must be 40 or younger or have practiced law for no more than 10 years.
Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC elected shareholder Matthew F. Burger to a three-year term on its board. For almost 20 years, Mr. Burger has represented national coal producers, contract miners, natural gas companies and energy companies in litigation and corporate matters throughout the country. He is chair of the firm's coal industry practice group.
