K&L Gates LLP appointed Valerie A. Jackson firmwide director of diversity and inclusion. Ms. Jackson joins the firm from Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP where she served as director of diversity. With extensive experience as a practicing lawyer and adviser on diversity policy, Ms. Jackson has counseled on the formation of professional development and diversity programs in legal, corporate and nonprofit environments. She has also served as an adviser to the Public Leadership Education Network and The Seneca, a nonprofit women's organization she co-founded.

Frank, Gale, Bails, Murcko & Pocrass, P.C. said founding partner Frederick N. Frank and partner Christine Gale have been named to the 2011 Pennsylvania Super Lawyer list by Law and Politics. This is Mr. Frank's 15th consecutive year and Ms. Gale's fourth consecutive year on the list.

Cohen & Grace, LLC said Thomas C. Wettach joined as a partner in its intellectual property litigation practice. Mr. Wettach joins the firm from Cohen & Grigsby, PC where he was head of the intellectual property group.

Reed Smith was honored by InsideCounsel for its women's career advancement policies, winning two of the publication's seven Transformative Leadership Awards. The awards are given annually in honor of women in-house counsel and law firm partners who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the empowerment of women in corporate law.

Reed Smith was awarded the Economic Empowerment Award in the Firmwide Policies category, given each year to the law firm that best demonstrates a commitment to women's career advancement. Ellen Bastier, who leads Reed Smith Renewable Energy Team, also received an Economic Empowerment Award in the Rainmaker category for being a pioneer in wind energy law, for her outstanding client service, and for maintaining an annual book of business in excess of $10 million.

Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC said the following attorneys were named to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list; an additional six attorneys were selected to the Pennsylvania Rising Stars list. Named to the 2011 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list were: Lynn J. Alstadt, Thomas E. Boyle, Samuel W. Braver, Charles B. Gibbons, Eugene A. Giotto, Thomas S. Giotto, Robert T. Harper, Craig S. Heryford, Mark R. Hornak, Robert A. Johnson, Edwin L. Klett, David J. Laurent, Jacqui Fiske Lazo, Michael J. Manzo, Wendelynne J. Newton, Stanley J. Parker, Larry E. Phillips, David J. Porter, Thomas M. Thompson and Howard J. Wein. The Rising Stars chosen as the top up-and-coming lawyers 40 years old or younger are: Daniel C. Garfinkel, energy and natural resources, Cindy D. Hinkle, business litigation, Lisa Pampena, real estate, Marc T. Thirkell, business litigation and Jaime S. Tuite, labor and employment.

Cohen & Grigsby said that attorney Thomas D. Maxson was recently certified as a business bankruptcy specialist by the American Board of Certification, a specialty certification organization sponsored by the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Commercial Law League of America. At the same time, attorney William E. Kelleher Jr., who was first certified in 1996, has received his recertification, which is required every five years.

Mr. Maxson is a director in the bankruptcy and creditors' rights and litigation practice groups, representing clients in various aspects of commercial law. His practice includes secured lending transactions, bankruptcy, fraudulent transfer actions, mortgage foreclosures, enforcement of judgments, contract litigation, collection matters, commercial lien disputes and general corporate transactions. He received his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a bachelor's degree in economics from Indiana University at Bloomington.

Mr. Kelleher chairs the bankruptcy and creditors' rights group, which concentrates on all aspects of bankruptcy, creditors' rights, financing transactions and commercial law, as well as litigation. Mr. Kelleher earned his J.D. from the Duquesne University School of Law and his B.A. in economics and political science from the University of Pittsburgh.
