Peter Kalis, chairman and global managing partner for K&L Gates, spoke with the Post-Gazette shortly before his firm's acquisition of Australian law firm Middletons, which expanded K&L Gates' presence into 45 cities on five continents. PG: When you look at the legal industry today, what's going to look different in 10 years from now?
Kalis: The clients. The issue is whether the global legal profession aligns itself with the businesses of the client community. So, if you look around Pittsburgh, you'll see business enterprises, some very large ones, some more modest-sized, and virtually all of them compete in global markets. Indeed, in the local markets, they have to deal with challenges of enterprises from around the world. That's the nature of their businesses, that's the nature of the 21st Century. What we have tried to do is align our business with the business of clients in an era of intense globalization.
