Christopher D. Harner, medical director for the University of Pittsburgh Medicine Center's Center for Sports Medicine was named president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Harner is the Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He holds a secondary appointment as professor of physical therapy, health, and physical activity.

The Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association honored two visionary entrepreneurs for their accomplishments and contributions. Donald H. Jones, managing director and founding partner of Draper Triangle Ventures, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award; Dennis Ciccone, CEO of Carnegie Learning Inc., was bestowed the 2012 Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
The American Water Works Association honored Serena A. DiMagno with a 2012 Fuller Award. Ms. . DiMagno is director of environmental engineering at RETTEW. The Fuller Award is presented annually by AWWA to selected chapter members for their distinguished service to the water supply field in commemoration of George Warren Fuller (1868 -- 1934). Fuller was an engineer who contributed greatly to the science of water purification, the treatment of sewage and the standardization of water works practices in the United States during his lifetime.
