Concordia Lutheran Ministries elected Stephen W. Johnson as chairman of its board and James Limbaugh as vice chairman for 2013 through 2015. Mr. Johnson is senior vice president and general counsel of Consol Energy Inc. Mr. Limbaugh is an attorney with Miller Limbaugh & Conley.

Officers and two additional members of Historic Harmony's 10-member board of directors, all incumbents, were installed for new terms that begin Jan. 1. Re-elected for two-year terms were president and chief executive John Ruch; vice president Cathryn Rape; recording secretary Joan M. Szakelyhidi; and treasurer Joseph White. Awards & Honors
The development of tools to assess the health of civil structures and the potential to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy will be the focus of a new grant from the National Science Foundation to Piervincenzo Rizzo, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering. Mr. Rizzo will serve as principal investigator on this collaborative research grant funded through the NSF's Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation.
Julie Hendry, public relations specialist for Direct Energy, was recognized as one of PR News' "15-to-Watch" for 2012 at the PR People Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 29. The awards, which were presented at the city's National Press Club, recognize up-and-coming public relations professionals across the United States. Winners will also be named and profiled in a special issue of PR News.
The education unit at Duquesne University -- the School of Education, the department of music education in the Mary Pappert School of Music and the department of speech and language pathology in the Rangos School of Health Sciences -- has received official approval of its continuing accreditation for 2012-2019 from the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.
In honor of her exceptional community service, leadership and volunteerism, Elizabeth H. Genter of Sewickley was named the 2012 recipient of Sara Frazier Ellis Award. Since 1980, The Sara Frazier Ellis Award has been presented annually by The Ellis School to a woman who exemplifies the values of the school: community engagement, volunteerism, leadership and professional accomplishment in one's field. The Sara Frazier Ellis Award celebrates Ms. Genter's volunteer service to organizations including the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission -- from 2000 to 2012 -- which recognizes and rewards people for their heroic acts, where she served on the finance and executive committees. Ms. Genter is in her second term as a trustee of The Ellis School, where she serves on the audit, development, finance and investment committees.
Patricia Pongibove is among this year's eight winners of the PNC Performance Award, the highest honor given to employees by The PNC Financial Services Group Inc. The award program, now in its 20th year, recognizes PNC employees who demonstrate a pattern of significant achievement and deliver a consistent level of extraordinary performance. A 31-year veteran of PNC, Ms. Pongibove currently serves as regulatory reporting manager and has held various roles of increasing responsibility during her tenure with the bank.
