Ervin Sejdic, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering, was named associate director of the RFID Center for Excellence.
Faculty promotions, appointments and tenureships were announced at Point Park University's Schools of Communication, Arts and Sciences and Business. In the School of Communication: Steven Hallock was promoted to associate professor of journalism. Aimee-Marie Dorsten was appointed to assistant professor in journalism and mass communication. Stephen Grebinski was appointed assistant visiting professor in photography. Robin Cecala was appointed visiting assistant professor in communication. School of Arts and Sciences: Gregg A. Johnson was appointed associate professor of electrical engineering technology in its natural sciences and engineering technology department. Laura Frost was promoted to assistant professor of biology. Criminal Justice and Intelligence Studies Department: Trudy Avery was promoted to associate professor. Lorelei Stein was promoted to professor. Ed Strimlan was appointed to assistant professor. Education Department: J. Kaye Cupples, an associate professor in special education, was granted tenure.
Humanities and Human Sciences: Brent Dean Robbins and Robert McInerney were promoted to associate professor. School of Business: Ed Traversari and Teresa Gregory were promoted to assistant professor in the sport, arts and entertainment management department. David Rowell was appointed assistant professor, sport, arts and entertainment management department. Amy Cesario was appointed visiting assistant professor, accounting.
The Community College of Allegheny County Educational Foundation board of directors has elected three new members. They are: Edward T. Karlovich, chief financial officer, Hospital and Community Services Division, UPMC; Linda A. Kortlandt, regional chief executive officer, Pittsburgh Office, Willis of Pennsylvania Inc.; and Louis E. Leff, associate clinical professor, Pitt School of Medicine.
Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc. hired James Pinta Jr., vice president, environmental; and Josh W. Reffner, project scientist, ecological.
Family Hospice and Palliative Care named Marty Howell, palliative care services program coordinator.
Karen Schneider was hired as director of human resources at the Masonic Village at Sewickley.
The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh said Jonathan M. Kamin and Christina Cardoso joined its board. Mr. Kamin is a managing partner of Goldberg, Kamin and Garvin LLP. Ms. Cardoso is an experienced volunteer for nonprofit organizations including the Child Crisis Center and the Florence Crittenton Center, both in Phoenix, and ARC in Rockland, N.Y.
