Triangle Welding in the Strip since 1934, has closed.
Inmedius Inc. launched its newest application, Advisor. The program automates Quality Assurance, ensuring that SGML and XML data content conforms to business rules and standards, so that publication authors no longer have to manually check each and every document.
California University of Pennsylvania and Millersville University are coordinating a three-year effort to encourage more students to consider careers in advanced manufacturing technology. The program will be funded by an $810,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The multiyear project will help address the shortage of advanced manufacturing technology workers in the state by increasing efforts to recruit students into related fields of study, providing the students with mentors and updating the middle school, high school and college technology curriculum.
New Business/New Offices
Giant Eagle will open its 100th GetGo with New Superette Concept at 408 Penn Avenue, Wilkinsburg, today. The new 5,000-square-foot concept store will offer an expanded selection of fresh perishables unseen in conventional convenience stores. The GetGo Superette will offer more than 100 produce items.
Aspen Dental Management Inc., a privately held dental practice management group in the Northeast, and their affiliated dentists opened an office in the Baum-Centre Corridor's new Centre Plaza, serving Shadyside, Oakland, Bloomfield and nearby. Aspen Dental is the second tenant in Centre Plaza at South Millvale and Centre avenues. The 3,600-square-foot office will provide a full range of dental and denture services. ULTA will open its newest location at the North Hills Village Mall, 4801 McKnight Road, Ross, next Friday. To celebrate, the new ULTA store is offering free makeovers and hair consultations, and giving away gift certificates to the first 100 customers in the store during opening weekend. It combines a selection of name brand cosmetics, fragrances and skin and hair care products with a full-service in-store salon.
Contracts
Burns & Scalo Roofing Co. has a contract for the Giant Eagle at the Logan Town Centre, Altoona, from general contractor FMS Construction. Architect is MCG Architecture.
Awards/Honors
The Green Building Alliance says this year's Shades of Green Leadership Awards in the following categories are: Business, Jim Lampl, director of conservation, Giant Eagle; Government, William Peduto, Pittsburgh city councilman; Nonprofit, Richard Piacentini, executive director, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and Jane Werner, executive director, Pittsburgh's Children's Museum.
NationaLease notes the 2005 recipients of its Masters Club Award, a program that recognizes the outstanding sales people in the NationaLease System, include Hall Luebbe, district representative for Aim NationaLease, one of 32 Platinum Award Winners, based on a competitive sales point system.
The 2006-07 Internet Marketing Attorney Rankings and Awards include Rothman Gordon as a Silver IMA winner for the small/midsize firm category.
Richard G. Portis, coordinator of the Veterans Business Outreach Center in Robert Morris University's Massey Center for Business Innovation and Development, received the U.S. Small Business Administration's Western Pennsylvania Veterans Small Business Champion of the Year award. Mr. Portis is president of XXIst Century Industries, which provides consulting services in project management, marketing and development. The event is sponsored by the Western Pennsylvania Small Business Network.
