Wayman Irvin & McAuley said Michael L. Magulick, senior partner, was selected to be listed in "The Best Lawyers In America." He is a trial lawyer specializing in professional liability litigation with emphasis on defending lawyers, doctors, dentists, pharmacists and other health care professionals.
Communifax Corp. won national design awards for its promotional materials. Print Solutions Magazine honored the marketing agency with two 2007 Print Excellence And Knowledge ("PEAK") Awards. Communifax was honored with "Awards of Excellence" in both the "Affixed Products" and "Self Promotion (Complex)" categories.
Smith Brothers Advertising's work for the Heinz "Top This!" TV Challenge was awarded top honors at the Creative Media Awards presented by Media Magazine. The combination of shelf-to-consumer strategy and user-generated content was named winner of the Communications Channel Plan category.
MARC USA Public Relations was recognized by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals' MarCom Awards for its outstanding work on the Flight 93 National Memorial fund-raising campaign and the "State of Black Pittsburgh" speech, written for the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh. MARC USA received the Platinum Award for its Flight 93 National Memorial Fund-raising Collateral Materials. The "State of Black Pittsburgh" speech, written by Suzanne Basista, senior public relations account executive, was honored with the Gold Award, for entries that exceed the high standards of the industry. The MarCom Awards is an international marketing and communications competition among corporate marketing and communications departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.
Stacey F. Vernallis was selected as member of the Council on Ethical Billing, an alliance of select attorneys, law firms, insurance companies, risk managers and general counsel for some of the nation's largest businesses that practice and promote ethical billing.
Koryak was named the Minority Business of the Year by the Pittsburgh Minority Business Opportunity Committee.
Ned Sokoloff, CEO and founder, Specialty Group, was named 2007 Associate Member of the Year during the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association's 70th Annual Membership Awards & Installation Dinner. PRA Associate Member of the Year possesses significant professional achievements on behalf of the industry. Mr. Sokoloff was nominated by his peers for this year's award after 37 years in the industry.
Rob Robson, IT support specialist, Medrad Inc., was named the 2007 Pittsburgh Help Desk Analyst of the Year by Steel City HDI, a local chapter of HDI Global. Mr. Robson, who has been with Medrad for nearly two years, was cited for his outstanding customer service attitude while working at Medrad's computer help desk.
Elliance received a Silver W3 Award, in the Guides category, for its design of the College Prowler Web site, www.collegeprowler.com.
Andy Hannah, president and CEO, Plextronics Inc., was selected by IDTechEx as the 2007 Printed Electronics Champion. Mr. Hannah was credited with promoting the printed electronics industry on a global scale.
Simon Youth Foundation presented its award for Administrator of the Year to Terrie Suica-Reed, president and CEO, Phase 4 Learning Center. SYF, established in 1998, has 21 alternative schools in11 states, and has awarded more than $4.4 million in one-time or renewable scholarships. The foundation exists to foster and improve educational opportunities, career development and life skills for at-risk youth through focused programs and initiatives with its public school partners.
Timothy Adams, senior associate, and Jim McCort, manager, of Carbis Walker LLP, Certified Public Accountants & Consultants, have completed all requirements necessary in earning the designation of Certified Public Accountant. Both are in the construction & real estate services team.
Joyce A. Bender received The Sattler Humanitarian Award from Achieva. The award, the highest honor bestowed, is given to volunteers who have made continuous, outstanding contributions on behalf of people with disabilities. Winners are selected among nominees exemplifying Achieva's vision of full inclusion in community life for people with disabilities including individuals, families, public servants or organizations. Ms. Bender received the award for her work to provide independence and freedom to people with disabilities through competitive employment. The host of Disability Matters, Ms. Bender is president and CEO of Bender Consulting Services Inc. and its "sister company" Bender Consulting Services of Canada Inc.
