In case you were wondering why the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is mentioned in today's installment of "Mother Goose and Grimm," well, we wondered the same thing. So we called cartoonist Mike Peters of the Dayton Daily News to find out.

"I was just doing as much as I could with all these 'gn' words," he said, "like gnarly and gnome, and I thought, 'I better stop doing this, people are gonna get sick of it, and somebody will drop me.

"Rob Rogers [PG editorial cartoonist] is a good friend of mine, so I just threw in the name of the Post-Gazette. That's really all there is to it."

The PG actually did drop another comic strip, "Tiger," in October to make room for "Pearls Before Swine." According to Steve Massey, assistant managing editor/features, no "gn" words were involved.

"I just thought it was time for a change," he said.
