'Sons of Anarchy' returns this week

After an Ireland tangent last year, FX's "Sons of Anarchy" returns to form in its fourth season premiere this week with the action set squarely back in the motorcycle club's hometown of Charming, Calif.
Even better, the show's wannabe hero, Jax (Charlie Hunnam), is fighting again, putting forth a plan to get out of his current situation. It's a welcome turn from last season's kidnapped baby plot that saw Jax reacting rather than plotting his own course.
When: 10 p.m. Tuesday, FX.
"I think you were put into my life to get me out," Jax tells Tara (Maggie Siff). "The bond that holds the club together is not brotherhood; it's just fear and greed now."
The new season picks up 14 months after the third season ended as members of the Sons of Anarchy emerge from prison to find Charming Heights under construction and a new sheriff in town (Rockmond Dunbar) while former police chief Wayne Unser (Dayton Callie) is in sad shape.
Written by series creator Kurt Sutter, Tuesday's season premiere resets the story in a way that should be satisfying to long-time fans while introducing a new, wily adversary for the club in the form of a motorcycle riding assistant U.S. attorney.
