'Essential' show on WESA

"Essential Pittsburgh," a new local program focusing on local news and culture, will debut Feb. 27 on WESA-FM, 90.5 Essential Public Radio.

"Essential Pittsburgh is an innovative hour-long signature program that will utilize 'immersive journalism,' " said host Paul Guggenheimer. "This format allows us to dig deeper into critical issues impacting the region, such as Marcellus Shale exploration, education, an aging population, the environment, health care and local government, for example."

Special episodes introducing the new show will air in the noon hour for the next three Fridays beginning today in preparation for the official Feb. 27 debut. In the new schedule, "On Point" changes to one hour at 10 a.m., and "Tell Me More" and "Here and Now" will air at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

Repeats of "On Point" are dropped to feature the 8 p.m. "Essential Pittsburgh" encore.
