Less than two months after WTAE welcomed a fourth meteorologist to its broadcast team, the station has announced the Dec. 31 departure of Erin Kienzle.
Ms. Kienzle, who joined WTAE-TV in June 2006, returns to Charleston, S.C., where her husband, Nick, has family and a new job. The couple has a daughter, 1.
"We wish her husband had gotten a great job here because we love seeing her every day," said Michael Hayes, station president and general manager. "She is a delight. We will miss her on the air, but we'll miss her off the air as well.
"I don't know what her plans are, but I'm sure she'll get scooped up and whoever gets her will be the better for it."
Ms. Kienzle came to Pittsburgh from a stint at WCSC-TV in Charleston, and her duties include weekend morning reporting and forecasts.
In September, WTAE hired Ray Petelin as a weekend meteorologist. Last April, Stephen Cropper left the ABC affiliate and eventually was hired as chief meteorologist at rival WPXI.
"Ray's done a good job," said Mr. Hayes, adding that a search soon will be under way to bolster the weather ranks. "We'll be going back through some of our applications, and we'll look through the Hearst network."
