KDKA, Root Sports host Paul Alexander suspected of DUI
Paul Alexander, a host of KDKA-FM's The Fan Morning Show, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of driving under the influence after he struck another car and failed to stop on the Parkway East, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Mr. Alexander was headed east when he struck a car about a half mile before the Squirrel Hill tunnels at around 5 p.m. A state trooper in the area saw the crash and pulled him over at the Churchill exit.
"[Mr. Alexander] gave false information about the incident," state police said in a news release. He then failed a field sobriety test.
He was placed under arrest and taken to Forbes Regional Hospital for a blood test to determine if he was intoxicated at the time of the collision. He was then released to his wife.
Trooper Robin Mungo, a spokeswoman for the state police, said charges against Mr. Alexander, of Monroeville, are pending the results of the test, which will come in two to four weeks.
Wednesday morning, Mr. Alexander did not host the Fan Morning Show Wednesday morning. Michael Young, the vice-president and market manager for CBS Pittsburgh, declined to comment on Mr. Alexander's absence or on his arrest.
"Paul will be back on the air [Thursday]," he said.
Mr. Alexander was scheduled to be the sideline reporter for Pitt football games on The Fan this season, but this afternoon University of Pittsburgh's athletic department announced that he would not be doing the games. Instead, KDKA-FM/AM sports anchor Jeff Hathhorn will handle the duties for Saturday's opener against Youngstown State. A permanent replacement will be named at a later time.
"It has been determined that Paul Alexander will not be a contributor to our broadcast team this season," Pitt senior associate athletic director E.J. Borghetti said in the statement."Paul has been a longtime and valued colleague of our department and we wish him only the best moving forward."
In addition to being a radio host, Mr. Alexander also hosts the Pirates and Penguins pre- and post-game shows on Root Sports.
