Chris Cuomo is joining CNN.

Mr. Cuomo will have a major role in a new CNN morning show and across the network, anchoring and reporting on major events, CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker announced Tuesday.

Previously, Mr. Cuomo was co-anchor of ABC News' "20/20" and, from 2006-09, a news anchor for "Good Morning America."

Mr. Cuomo arrives as three of CNN's most familiar political contributors -- James Carville, Mary Matalin and Erick Erickson -- are departing, The Los Angeles Times reports. Mr. Carville, a prominent Democratic strategist, has been with the network since 2002. He is married to the conservative Ms. Matalin, a CNN contributor since 2009.

Mr. Erickson also joined the network in 2009. The pundit confirmed the "very, very difficult decision" to leave CNN in a post on Red State, the right-leaning website for which he is an editor.
