Why it has taken this long to get Tom Atkins and Bingo O'Malley on a stage together is one of those inexplicable oversights that finally has been set right:

The stalwarts of Pittsburgh theater take part in a staged reading of Ray Werner's "Elder Hostages," a trilogy of one-act plays produced by the Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company. The one-night reading 8 p.m. Thursday at New Hazlett Theater, North Side, is a fundraiser to help Playwrights stage a full production of the play.

Teri Bridgett and Susie McGregor-Laine join the actors in the three pieces, titled "Mum's the Word," "Wandering Angus" and "Night Song." In a statement, Mr. Atkins noted his excitement at being united with Mr. O'Malley onstage after both had worked on the 2009 film "My Bloody Valentine 3D."

"We are the perfect two old actors for these roles," he said of "Elder Hostages."

Tickets are $25 at www.pghplaywrights.com via Paypal, or send checks to Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company, 542 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
