School of American Ballet to hold auditions Sunday for summer courses

Intermediate and advanced ballet dancers age 12 to 18 by July 31 are invited to audition for the School of American Ballet's summer course in New York City.

Candidates will be considered Sunday at Point Park University, Downtown. Auditions for 12- to 14-year-olds will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m., with another session for 15- to 18-year-olds from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Students should arrive one hour in advance of their audition time to register. Preregistration also is available at www.sab.org/summercourse. The application fee is $35. All students should bring copies of their birth certificates, and girls should bring pointe shoes.

More than 2,000 rising ballet dancers in 20 cities are expected to compete for approximately 200 spots in the summer courses, which will run from June 24 to July 27 at Lincoln Center on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The late George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein founded the school 79 years ago. Past students have gone on to professional careers with New York City Ballet and other companies across the country and the world.
