Pearlann Porter's The Pillow Project will once again spread its footprint across the summer with its Second Saturday series through August.

But Pittsburgh's collective dance footprint is a large one this season, from solo work by Gia Caccalano and Maria Caruso to Pittsburgh native/New York City sensation Kyle Abraham to movement juggernauts like Cirque du Soleil and "West Side Story."

The outlook is fresh, too, with the ballroom kids from Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh in their grand finale and former Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre member Alan Obuzor, who will debut his new company, Textures Contemporary Ballet in July. And right now you can check out the latest newMoves at the Kelly-Strayhorn.

NEWMOVES DANCE FESTIVAL: It's the third year and a promising line-up of the best in cutting-edge contemporary dance. Featuring choreographers from New York City, Philadelphia and, of course, Pittsburgh, the festival has expanded with artists from Seattle and North Carolina as well and will showcase at both the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater and Grey Box Theatre (May 13-15). 412-363-3000 or www.kelly-strayhorn.org.

PITTSBURGH BALLET THEATRE SCHOOL PRE-PROFESSIONAL SHOWCASE: PBT's school shows why it is gaining national recognition with "Paquita," plus selections from "Giselle," "Le Corsaire" and contemporary ballet at Point Park University's George Rowland White Performance Studio (May 13-15). www.pbt.org.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: This is movement pushed into the extreme, but is still filled with imaginative dance transitions amid the breath-taking circus physicality. A full-blown experience unlike any other underneath the Grand Chapiteau in the Strip District (through May 29). www.cirquedusoleil.com.

THE PILLOW PROJECT: Pearlann Porter's Second Saturday series tackles some very cool concepts during the hot summer months at The Space Upstairs in Construction Junction. The performance on May 14 interprets landmark films and features "The Fight Club." Subsequent jazz happenings (June 11, July 9, August 13) will feature live music, directed dance compositions and improvisational dance after midnight as long as people want to move. www.pillowproject.org.

WEST SIDE STORY: Jerome Robbins' iconic choreography is lovingly re-created in this bilingual production spearheaded by director Arthur Laurents at the Benedum Center (May 17-22). 412-456-6666 or www.pgharts.org.
